Selena Gomez just debuted her song ‘Lose You to Love Me’ which hints at her revelations about her relationship with Justin Bieber. This long-awaited video is Gomez’s first solo track in over a year. She hinted at the new track in recent cryptic posts on Twitter with snippets of the lyrics littered throughout her posts.
In this video, (shot on an iPhone 11 Pro) we see Selena go through a range of emotions as she chronicles the last few years of her life.
She starts off singing, ”You promised the world and I fell for it/ I put you first and you adored it/ You set fires to my forest/ And you let it burn/ Sang off-key in my chorus ‘cause it wasn’t yours.”
Her lyrics carry the weight of her emotional journey with the chorus stating, “We’d always go into it blindly / I needed to lose you to find me / This dance it was killin’ me softly.
While Bieber is not mentioned in the song, the lyrics “Set fire to my purpose and I let it burn,” is perhaps a reference to Bieber's 2015 album Purpose. She continues with the line“In two months you replaced us like it was easy.” The pair called it quits in March 2018, but two months later Bieber moved on with his now-wife Hailey Baldwin.
Gomez commented on the video saying, “This song was inspired by many things that have happened in my life since releasing my last album. I want people to feel hope and to know you will come out the other side a stronger and better version of yourself.”
Gomez is slated to release a new album “very soon.” It’ll be a follow-up to ‘Revival” in 2015 and her first since undergoing a kidney transplant in 2017.
This song has an important message and the video leaves a lasting impression. Go watch. Do you agree with fans about its message?
