Galentine's Day—a day for women to celebrate their friendships with their lady friends
-Merriam Webster
Between the overzealous floral displays, garish plush animals, and costly chocolates, Valentine's Day may elicit an unwelcome reaction if you're single. This holiday has the uncanny ability to make the celebration of love almost nauseating. Furthermore, images of happy couples and sentimental posts abound on social media. Somehow, the internet exacerbates the problem; a quick Google search of "being single on Valentine's Day" yields result after result of self-help, as if being single were a character flaw. If this idea of Valentine’s Day is disappointing, gather your friends and enjoy a different kind of love, the love of friendship. As we all knw, friendship is the greatest gift. If you have true friends, you know they will always be in your corner and these connections transcend time, and sometimes even outlast romantic relationships. So, to celebrate love and friendship, we’ve compiled a list of top Galentine’s Day activities you can plan with your besties all month long or year round! With just a little creativity, some of these can even be adapted to include friends who live far away or who are unable to participate due to COVID.
1. Hot Tub Boating
Nothing beats a steamy 104-degree hot tub that can take you on a spin around Lake Union. See some of the most breathtaking views of Seattle all while relaxing and listening to music. Bring your bathing suit and cherish an afternoon taking in the sights while spending quality time together. If captaining a boat sounds nerve-wracking, you’ll be relieved to know you can steer it with a joystick. This is also pandemic-friendly, as the tub is drained and cleaned after each use.
2. Woodinville Wine Tasting
Book an igloo at Chateau Ste. Michelle and embrace a whole new level of wine tasting in a private, (and rainproof) igloo. Select your choice of wines from the area’s finest winery with its French countryside-style grounds. Gather up to 5 friends and enjoy catching up over a gourmet charcuterie board and a glass of wine, in an intimate and serene setting.
3. Karaoke at Rock Box
Clear those vocal cords! A night of karaoke with your best friends can be liberating. Book a "box" at Rock Box Seattle and enjoy a private room to belt out your favorite tunes. Their large drink menu and appetizers will keep you hyped as you sing the night away. We highly suggest singing the Spice Girls' "Wannabe." The infamous 90s pop song from elementary school is sure to foster solidarity and girl power.
4. Mani Pedi's at Refined Nail Salon
Indulge your neglected cuticles with some luxurious and well-deserved pampering. Make a reservation at Refine Nail Salon for you and all your friends. Their services are expansive, accessible, and are sure to fit each friend’s nail needs. Their inviting, feminine, and sophisticated salon will help you relax and unwind. After all, relaxation is beneficial to both your mental and physical health.
5. Rom-Com Movie Night
If your squad would rather spend the night in, then have a movie marathon of your best-loved rom-coms. Break out the classic 90s and 2000s rom-coms or hit up Netflix and select from their top picks of chick flicks. Make some drinks, pop the popcorn, and enjoy everything from 'Legally Blonde' to 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.' Check out our cocktail guide and test them out with your friends!
